Relief and Rescue Operations Continue in Nepal

Following the catastrophic floods that struck Nepal on August 26, rescue and relief operations are in full swing. The floods, exacerbated by glacial melt, have caused significant destruction across various regions. According to the latest reports from the Nepalese government, a total of 1,367 bodies have been recovered, while approximately 5,100 individuals remain unaccounted for. Authorities are working diligently to restore essential services in the affected areas alongside ongoing search and rescue efforts.

India Sends Eighth Relief Shipment

In the midst of the crisis, India has been consistently providing humanitarian assistance. A C-17 aircraft from the Indian Air Force has delivered 35 tons of relief supplies and specialized equipment to Kathmandu. This marks the eighth special flight dispatched by India to aid Nepal.

The assistance from India includes vital materials and equipment necessary for rescue and relief operations. To date, over 130 tons of relief supplies have been sent to Nepal through these eight special flights. Additionally, India has deployed 54 experts to assist with relief, rescue, and forensic operations.

Search for Thousands Continues

In the flood-affected regions of Nepal, efforts to locate missing individuals are ongoing. The Nepalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that 13,646 people have been rescued, including more than 300 foreign nationals. However, around 5,100 individuals are still reported missing.

Forensic teams from Nepal and several other countries, including India, are collaborating to identify the missing persons and the recovered bodies. The Nepalese government has indicated that the DNA identification process is being expedited.

Restoration of Roads and Communication Systems

The floods have severely impacted numerous roads, bridges, and other essential infrastructure. The administration is focused on delivering relief to affected areas while also working to restore road, electricity, and telecommunications services.
