Protests Persist as Jharkhand Government Engages with Student Groups
On the 15th day of protests regarding alleged paper leaks and irregularities in recruitment examinations, the Jharkhand government held discussions with several student organizations on Saturday. However, no resolution was reached during these meetings, and the protesting candidates declared that their movement would persist until their demands are met. This latest round of talks followed a meeting with a 10-member delegation from the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Forum on Friday night.
On Saturday, a five-member government panel, consisting of three ministers, first met with a faction led by JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto, followed by discussions with representatives from Congress-supported NSUI, ACS, and the Jharkhand Student Front (JCM). The initial meeting with Mahto's JPSC-JSSC Candidates Forum lasted nearly two hours and marked the seventh day of Mahto's hunger strike. After the meeting, state minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav stated, "The demands of the protesting candidates are legitimate; we will present them to Chief Minister Hemant Soren."
State minister Deepika Pandey Singh remarked that the discussions were held in a positive atmosphere and assured that the issues raised by students regarding recruitment irregularities would be resolved promptly. Higher and Technical Education Minister Sudivya Kumar mentioned that the government has also established an email address, jpsc.jssc.feedback@gmail.com, to solicit suggestions from candidates for improving the recruitment process. The JPSC-JSSC Candidates Forum expressed that the government assured them of a swift decision on the issues raised during the meeting.
Nevertheless, a leader from the forum stated that the protests would continue until all demands, including the cancellation of the 14th JPSC exam, are met. Mahto emphasized that the protesters are calling for the immediate cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand PSC Civil Service Examination and all exams conducted by that agency.
