New Delhi, Jul 5: The protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar has reached its 16th day, with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk now on the eighth day of his indefinite hunger strike. Medical professionals have noted a weight reduction of approximately 6 kg.
As per the health update from doctors, Wangchuk's blood pressure was measured at 112/70 mm Hg while lying down, his heart rate was 72 beats per minute, and his blood sugar level was 67 mg/dL.
The report indicated that his hydration levels are satisfactory, he remains mentally alert, and his weight has decreased to 60.95 kg, reflecting a loss of around six kg over the past week.
The CJP continues to demand the resignation of the Education Minister, citing ongoing examination irregularities and paper leaks that have severely impacted students and their families.
In a recent social media update, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shared that the parents of NEET aspirant Riya Kumari Thapa, who allegedly took her own life after the paper leak disrupted her aspirations, visited the protest site on Sunday.
Dipke mentioned that Thapa's father, a veteran of the Army, joined the protest to advocate for other families to avoid the tragedy his family faced, urging the government to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Additionally, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which previously expressed support for the CJP's protest, is set to send a delegation to Jantar Mantar on July 7.
The farmers' organization had initially indicated in its correspondence with the CJP that its representatives would attend the protest on Sunday.
SKM has shown solidarity with the students and youth involved in the protest, asserting that every student deserves a transparent, fair, and credible examination process, emphasizing that accountability lies with the government.
Members of the Left-affiliated All India Students' Association (AISA) are also continuing their indefinite hunger strike at a separate location within the protest area.
On Saturday, Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) joint secretary Danish Ali was hospitalized at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after her blood sugar plummeted to 46 mg/dL on the seventh day of her hunger strike.
Meanwhile, Neha, Manish, Hrishikesh, Deepak Kumar Verma, and Aameen are maintaining their indefinite fast at the protest site.
The CJP's protest commenced on June 20, addressing alleged irregularities within the national examination system and has garnered support from various political figures, activists, and members of civil society.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), conducted on May 3 for medical college admissions, was annulled due to claims of a paper leak, leading to a re-test on June 21.
