In Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, a confrontation is ongoing between District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and Naxalites. Initial reports indicate that three Naxalites have been killed, with several others likely injured in the exchange of gunfire. Police sources revealed that they received specific intelligence about a significant presence of Naxalites in the Golapalli area. Acting on this information, DRG forces initiated a search operation in the Golapalli forest.
On the morning of December 18, as security personnel arrived in the area, the Maoists reportedly opened fire, leading to intense gunfire from both sides. It has been reported that intermittent firing has continued since this morning, resulting in the deaths of three Maoists, including a female combatant. Casualties in Previous Encounters
This year, a total of 284 Naxalites have been killed in encounters across Chhattisgarh, with 255 of those fatalities occurring in the Bastar region, which includes districts such as Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada. Additionally, 27 others were killed in the Gariaband district of the Raipur region. Two Naxalites were also reported dead in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki area of the Durg district.
Previous Operations
Earlier, on December 3, security forces eliminated 12 Naxalites during a clash on the Dantewada-Bijapur border. Among the deceased was Vella Modium, a member of the Divisional Committee and a senior Maoist leader. However, this operation also resulted in casualties among the security forces, with three DRG personnel losing their lives and two others sustaining injuries.
On November 16, 2025, DRG personnel received intelligence regarding Naxalite activity in the Bhajji-Chintagufa border area, prompting a search operation. During this operation, Naxalites opened fire in the Tumlapad forest, leading the troops to take strategic positions and return fire. Throughout the morning, sporadic gunfire continued, resulting in the deaths of three Naxalites, whose bodies were later recovered from the forest.
