Omar Abdullah Demands Action Against Interference in Jammu and Kashmir Power Projects

Chief Minister's Call for Action

On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged authorities to take decisive measures against individuals obstructing the development of power projects in the region, as reported by a local news outlet.

Abdullah emphasized to reporters in Srinagar that any form of interference must be addressed seriously. He stated, “There should be no interference, and it should be taken seriously.” He further expressed his concerns about the lack of control over the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation, despite holding the position of power minister.

Harpal Singh, the project manager, indicated that the nearly two-year delay was largely due to ongoing interference from local politicians and their supporters. He asserted that these individuals were pressuring project officials to meet unreasonable demands regarding contract awards and recruitment, despite the absence of job openings.

Singh cautioned that if the disruptions persist, the company might have to withdraw from the project.

During the press conference, Abdullah underscored the project's significance on a national level, asserting that if similar allegations were made against any ministers from his party, the anti-corruption bureau would have already intervened. “These projects are not only for Jammu and Kashmir but for the entire India,” he remarked, urging relevant agencies to investigate the matter.

He also pointed out that while only one MLA's name has been mentioned, “two opposition MLAs are interfering in all projects in Kishtwar district,” referring to Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma.
