Major Highway Developments in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Indian government has sanctioned national highway projects in Odisha amounting to ₹13,000 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, as announced by a state minister on Thursday.

According to Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, the state aims to complete road construction projects worth ₹2,000 crore by September.

"We need to accelerate our construction efforts. Our goal is to spend ₹2,000 crore by September. If we meet our deadlines, we can secure the full ₹13,000 crore in highway projects from the central government, setting a new record for national highway construction in Odisha," he stated.

Harichandan expressed optimism that Odisha would expand its national highway network beyond the achievements of the past five years.

Regarding the highway project linking Sambalpur and Cuttack, he noted that delays were caused by financial challenges faced by the contractor.

"Those issues have now been addressed, and the project is nearing completion, with only a few sections remaining. I am confident that the outstanding work will be finished by the end of this year," the minister added.

This project, which commenced in 2017, was initially scheduled for completion in 2020.
