Extended Deadline for Teacher Eligibility Test in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development for current educators, the Odisha School and Mass Education (S&ME) Department has announced an extension for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualification deadline by an additional year.

As per an official announcement made on Tuesday, teachers who have yet to pass the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) now have until August 31, 2028, to meet this requirement, extending the previous deadline of August 31, 2027.

The department has instructed the Director of Elementary Education to ensure that all eligible in-service teachers fulfill this qualification within the new timeline, adhering to the directives from the Supreme Court.

This extension comes in light of a Supreme Court ruling that altered a previous decision in the case of State of Uttar Pradesh vs. Anjuman Ishaat-E-Taleem Trust & Others, which granted in-service teachers an additional year to obtain their TET qualification.

In its directive, the department emphasized the need to communicate the updated timeline to all relevant parties and ensure compliance with the court's orders. The S&ME Department has classified this matter as a priority, urging prompt action to implement the Supreme Court's directives.
