An Unusual Scoring Error in Odisha's Class XII Results

Bhubaneswar: In a surprising turn of events, a Class XII student from Odisha has been reported to have scored an astonishing 102 out of 100 in the English examination, as revealed by sources on Friday.

The discrepancy was found in the results of Biswajeet Oram, a science student at Ravenshaw Higher Secondary School. His score was incorrectly listed as 82 in theory and 20 in internal assessment, leading to a total of 102 marks.

Prashant Kumar Parida, the Examination Controller for CHSE, explained that this anomaly was due to a 'computer glitch' and assured that the necessary corrections would be implemented within a week. He noted that this was the only instance of such an error reported during the examination cycle.

The CHSE announced the Class XII examination results on May 20. During the announcement, Nityananda Gond, the state’s School and Mass Education Minister, mentioned that 4.01 lakh students had registered for the Annual Higher Secondary Examination-2026 (Class XII).

Out of these, 3.98 lakh students took the exam, with 3.41 lakh passing, resulting in an overall pass rate of 85.85%, which is an improvement over last year's 82.45%. The pass rates for various streams were 84.50% for arts, 88.80% for science, 88.07% for commerce, and 77.62% for vocational courses.
