Police Crack Down on Job Fraud in Odisha

Brahmapur: On Friday, law enforcement in Odisha dismantled a sophisticated job fraud operation in the Ganjam district, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including three women. They are accused of deceiving numerous job seekers by falsely promising employment across various sectors, according to a police official.

Authorities confiscated fake appointment letters, a counterfeit ID card, various documents belonging to victims such as matriculation certificates and Aadhaar cards, along with cash amounting to ₹25,000 and three mobile phones from the suspects, reported Sabyasachi Malla, the inspector-in-charge of Chhatrapur police station.

Initial investigations indicate that the scam has affected several young individuals in the Chhatrapur, Khallikote, Sorada, and Golabandh regions of Ganjam district. So far, seven victims have been identified, with total losses estimated at around ₹3 lakh, the police officer stated.

The suspects allegedly posed as government officials to mislead victims, particularly in the Khallikote area, according to police reports.

Malla confirmed that a case has been filed and investigations are ongoing.

One complainant claimed to have transferred ₹60,000 online to the accused, who assured him that they would secure a Grade IV position for his wife at a block office. The appointment letter and ID card provided turned out to be fraudulent.
