Odisha Police Recovers Stolen Gold and Silver Ornaments Worth ₹50 Lakh from Chhattisgarh Heist
Significant Recovery of Stolen Jewelry
Brahmapur: Authorities in Odisha have successfully retrieved gold and silver jewelry valued at approximately ₹50 lakh, which had been stolen from a jeweler in Chhattisgarh last month, as reported by officials on Monday.
The recovered items, which include 300 grams of gold and 1.4 kilograms of silver, were discovered in a locked residence belonging to one of the suspects in Sorada, Ganjam district, on Sunday. These items have been handed over to the Chhattisgarh Police for further investigation.
The suspects involved in the theft are currently on the run, according to police reports.
Saurav Ranjan Pradhan, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Asika, stated, "We have identified the individuals involved. Our search efforts have intensified across various locations to apprehend them."
On July 26, four individuals on motorcycles reportedly snatched a bag filled with gold and silver jewelry from a jeweler as he was opening his shop in Ambikapur, located in the Sitapur police station area of Chhattisgarh.
Following the incident, the Chhattisgarh Police disseminated CCTV footage of the robbery to police stations nationwide in an effort to identify the culprits, Pradhan noted.
After reviewing the footage, it was confirmed that one of the suspects was from Sorada. The police monitored his and his wife's banking activities over the past few days, suspecting that they might deposit money from selling the stolen jewelry.
However, as no significant transactions were observed in their accounts, the police speculated that the stolen items were hidden at the suspect's residence and proceeded with a raid.
Upon arrival, the house was found locked, but a relative possessed the key, as explained by the SDPO.
During the search, the police uncovered the stolen jewelry concealed within a box that was packed with dried mangoes.
A four-member team from Chhattisgarh, which traveled to Ganjam for the investigation, expressed gratitude to the Sorada police for recovering the stolen items in under a month.
A Chhattisgarh police officer remarked, "We are optimistic that the suspects will be apprehended soon through the collaborative efforts of law enforcement from both states."
