Odisha Government Takes Action to Address University Vacancies: 1400 Teaching Positions to be Filled
Efforts to Fill Vacant Positions in Odisha's Public Universities
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched initiatives to address the numerous vacant teaching and non-teaching roles in its public universities this year.
On Saturday, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj announced that the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has been tasked with filling approximately 1,400 teaching positions, which includes 385 Assistant Professors, by July.
He also mentioned that the recruitment process for Vice-Chancellors at various universities is nearing completion, thanks to the recent enactment of the Odisha Universities (Amendment) Act, 2024.
Suraj stated, “There are around 1,400 vacancies in universities statewide. We will adhere to the reservation guidelines set forth by the Supreme Court and the government to ensure representation from all societal segments.”
Additionally, he indicated that the Staff Selection Board (SSB) has been instructed to address non-teaching vacancies, with some already advertised and the recruitment process for the remaining positions underway.
According to official statistics, there are currently 1,430 faculty vacancies across 17 state-run universities.
