Odisha Government Partners with NIEPID to Enhance Support for Intellectually Disabled Individuals
Collaboration to Boost Education and Awareness for Intellectually Disabled
The Odisha government has entered into a partnership with the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) to improve the early identification, education, capacity building, and community awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities across the state.
On Friday, the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department (SSEPD) of the state signed this memorandum of understanding. This agreement aims to establish organized cooperation for implementing a new curriculum developed by NIEPID in state-run special schools.
According to an official statement, the goal of this collaboration is to enhance educational and developmental facilities for children with intellectual disabilities through expert assistance, training, and ongoing monitoring.
As per the agreement, both organizations will work together in areas such as early identification and intervention, training for special educators and caregivers, curriculum implementation, research, documentation, and community awareness, aiming to integrate disabled children into mainstream society and reduce discrimination against them.
This partnership will involve training programs, development of resource materials, digital learning content, and expert monitoring. The agreement is set to remain effective for three years and may be extended upon mutual consent of both parties.
