Inauguration of a Modern Healthcare Facility
On Monday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated a new 650-bed hospital complex at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada, Odisha. Spanning approximately 50 acres, this state-of-the-art facility is equipped with modern infrastructure, including 10 ICUs, multiple operating theaters, emergency services, a pathology lab, diagnostic center, and specialized departments for medicine, orthopedics, pediatrics, gynecology, and dentistry.
Enhancing Healthcare Access and Education
This initiative marks a significant step towards improving healthcare access in the region, enhancing medical education, and expanding super-specialty services for patients. The project aims to strengthen Odisha's public health infrastructure.
Commitment to Disaster Risk Reduction
Earlier on Saturday, Chief Minister Majhi inaugurated the technical meeting of the BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group (DRRWG) in the holy city of Puri. He reaffirmed Odisha's commitment to disaster management, climate adaptation, and sustainable development, calling for increased international and inter-state cooperation to tackle the growing challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters. During the welcome address to representatives and experts from BRICS countries on Thursday (June 4), the Chief Minister emphasized that this conference serves as a crucial platform for advancing global disaster risk reduction efforts. He highlighted that the meeting's theme, "Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability," reflects the urgent priorities of the international community to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and future generations.
Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction with Sustainable Development
While addressing the session, Majhi stressed that disaster risk reduction is no longer a separate concern but an integral part of sustainable development, economic stability, and human security. He noted that the frequency and intensity of disasters worldwide are increasing due to climate change, rapid urbanization, and environmental degradation, necessitating robust preparedness and coordinated action.
