Nurpur Trade Association Advocates for Balanced Education Options Amid CBSE Curriculum Shift

The Nurpur Trade Association has welcomed the Himachal Pradesh Government's decision to introduce the CBSE curriculum in local schools but urges a balanced approach. They emphasize the need to retain the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board at one school to provide students with options. This move aims to ensure that students, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds, have access to diverse educational pathways without facing additional travel hardships. The association's memorandum highlights the importance of local circumstances in shaping educational policies.

Concerns Over CBSE Implementation in Nurpur Schools

The Nurpur Trade Association has expressed its support for the Himachal Pradesh Government's initiative to implement the CBSE curriculum in 100 government schools. They submitted a memorandum to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Arun Sharma, directed to the state authorities.

While the association commended the government's move, they stressed the importance of considering local conditions in Nurpur. They specifically mentioned the PM Shri BTC GMGSSS Nurpur and the Government Boys Senior Secondary School Nurpur.

The association requested that the CBSE curriculum be adopted for classes VI to XII at PM Shri BTC GMGSSS Nurpur, while advocating for the Government Boys Senior Secondary School Nurpur to remain affiliated with the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board. Their argument was that if both institutions transitioned to CBSE, students in Nurpur would lose the option to study under the state board.

They contended that keeping the state board at one school would allow students to choose between CBSE and the HP Board. Those inclined towards CBSE could enroll in PM Shri BTC, while others could continue with the state board. This arrangement, they argued, would facilitate curriculum selection and prevent economically disadvantaged students from facing disadvantages.

Additionally, the memorandum highlighted that there are no other government schools within a five-kilometer radius of Nurpur city. If the HP Board option is removed, students would have to travel 8–10 kilometers to reach alternative schools, imposing further challenges on families.

The Nurpur Trade Association called on the government to acknowledge these concerns and maintain the Government Boys Senior Secondary School Nurpur under the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board.
