He was wanted in connection with FIR No. 65/2016 filed at Police Station Indora under Section 39(1) of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act. On July 28, 2026, the court had declared him a Proclaimed Offender (PO) due to his repeated absences and non-compliance with judicial orders.

Details of the Arrest

On August 17, 2026, the PO Cell team successfully tracked down Akash in Dinanagar, District Gurdaspur, Punjab. Following legal protocols, his brother, Vishal Kumar, was informed of the arrest via phone.

The case against Akash originated in 2016 when he was charged under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act for offenses related to illegal liquor activities. His failure to appear in court led to his designation as a proclaimed offender.

Operation Overview

The Nurpur Police's PO Cell has been actively pursuing proclaimed offenders across various jurisdictions. This operation showcased their strategic planning and coordination. Utilizing intelligence reports, officers traced Akash’s whereabouts to Dinanagar in Punjab.

The arrest was executed with precision, adhering to legal standards and ensuring minimal disruption to the local community. After his capture, Akash was handed over to the appropriate authorities for further legal action.

The Additional Superintendent of Police, Nurpur District, reiterated the commitment to the campaign against proclaimed offenders, stating:

“Nurpur Police is dedicated to enforcing the law. Proclaimed offenders will not evade justice. Our teams are diligently working to locate and apprehend those who try to escape the judicial system. This arrest is a significant step towards ensuring that offenders face the legal consequences they deserve.”

Wider Initiative Against Proclaimed Offenders

Akash's arrest is part of a broader initiative by Nurpur Police aimed at bringing proclaimed offenders to justice. In recent months, several individuals classified as POs have been captured from various regions, including Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.

This campaign employs a multi-faceted approach:

  • Intelligence Gathering: Continuous monitoring of suspects’ activities and networks.

  • Inter-State Coordination: Collaborating with police forces in neighboring states to track down fugitives.

  • Legal Compliance: Ensuring that arrests are made in accordance with judicial orders and due process.

  • Community Engagement: Informing families of arrested individuals and encouraging public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.

Impact on Community Safety

The capture of proclaimed offenders like Akash significantly contributes to maintaining law and order. Such individuals often engage in illegal activities while evading justice, posing threats to society. By arresting them, law enforcement not only enforces judicial orders but also deters others from attempting to escape accountability.

These arrests send a clear message that law enforcement agencies are vigilant and proactive. The public can be assured that offenders cannot indefinitely avoid justice, thereby enhancing trust in the police and judicial system.

Next Steps in Legal Proceedings

Following his arrest, Akash will be presented before the relevant court as per legal requirements. The judicial process will dictate the subsequent steps, including trial and sentencing. His arrest also revives the pending case under the Excise Act, ensuring that justice is served after years of delay.

Community Involvement

Nurpur Police has once again called upon the public to assist in maintaining law and order. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities, illegal trade, or individuals attempting to evade justice. Such cooperation is essential for the swift apprehension of proclaimed offenders.
