NPP Selects Dr. D Rockyer Lyngdoh Nonglait for Shillong Lok Sabha By-Election

The National People's Party (NPP) has officially announced Dr. D Rockyer Lyngdoh Nonglait as its candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma emphasized Nonglait's commitment to the Khasi language and cultural heritage, expressing confidence in his ability to represent Meghalaya's interests in Parliament. This by-election follows the passing of Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon, and no other parties have yet declared their candidates. The election date is still pending.

Shillong, May 7: The National People's Party (NPP), which governs Meghalaya, has officially named Dr. D Rockyer Lyngdoh Nonglait as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Shillong Lok Sabha constituency.


Conrad K Sangma, the party president and Chief Minister, expressed that Nonglait represents the hopes and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya and will serve as a robust representative in Parliament.


During a meeting of the party's General Executive Council, Sangma conveyed his best wishes to Nonglait for the electoral contest.


"Dr. Nonglait is a passionate advocate for the Khasi language and a staunch supporter of preserving our rich cultural heritage," he remarked.


The Chief Minister also voiced his belief that Nonglait, recognized for his dedication to promoting the Khasi language and indigenous culture, would effectively address Meghalaya's concerns on a national platform.


The NPP candidate has been involved in various initiatives aimed at enhancing Khasi literature, identity, and cultural heritage.


Currently, no other political party has put forward candidates for the by-election in the Shillong constituency, which is one of the two Lok Sabha seats in the northeastern state.


In the other constituency, Tura, the MP is Congress leader Saleng A Sangma.


This by-election was prompted by the passing of Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon, a leader from the Voice of the People Party, on February 19. The date for the by-election has yet to be announced.
