Shillong, May 7: The National People's Party (NPP), which governs Meghalaya, has officially named Dr. D Rockyer Lyngdoh Nonglait as its candidate for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election.
Conrad K Sangma, the party president and Chief Minister, stated that Nonglait represents the hopes and dreams of Meghalaya's residents and will be a strong advocate for the state in Parliament.
During a meeting of the party's General Executive Council, Sangma conveyed his best wishes to Nonglait for the electoral contest.
"Dr. Nonglait is a passionate supporter of the Khasi language and a dedicated advocate for the preservation of our rich cultural heritage," he remarked.

Nonglait has been involved in various initiatives aimed at enhancing Khasi literature, identity, and cultural heritage.
As of now, no other political party has put forward candidates for the by-election in the Shillong constituency, which is one of the two Lok Sabha seats in the northeastern state.
In the other constituency, Tura, Congress leader Saleng A Sangma currently serves as the MP.
This by-election was prompted by the passing of Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon, a prominent figure from the Voice of the People Party, on February 19. The specific date for the by-election has yet to be announced.
