Northeast Frontier Railway Maintains Night Schedule for Guwahati-Sairang Express

The Northeast Frontier Railway has confirmed that the Guwahati-Sairang Express will continue to operate on its existing night schedule, scrapping proposed changes that would have altered travel times. This decision comes after public outcry regarding the impact of daytime travel on commuters in Mizoram. Regular travelers expressed relief, noting that the night schedule allows for better use of daytime hours in Guwahati. The initial proposal had faced significant criticism on social media, with some linking it to a recent meeting between the Chief Minister and the Railway Minister. The railway authorities have now opted to retain the current timetable, ensuring convenience for passengers.

NFR Confirms Existing Timetable for Guwahati-Sairang Express

Aizawl, Dec 31: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced on Tuesday that it will not proceed with the planned changes to the timetable for the Guwahati-Sairang-Guwahati Express, ensuring that the train will continue to run on its current night schedule.

NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, confirmed that the proposed time adjustments, set to begin on January 1, have been cancelled. Currently, trains 15609 and 15610 depart from Guwahati and Sairang at 7 pm, arriving at their destinations by 8:30 am.

The now-abandoned proposal suggested that the Sairang service would leave at 6 am and reach Guwahati by 7:30 pm, along with an early morning departure from Guwahati to Sairang.

This decision to keep the existing schedule has been positively received in Mizoram, where commuters expressed concerns about the implications of daytime travel. Thuamliana, a regular traveler from Aizawl, noted that the night journey allows passengers to utilize daytime hours in Guwahati and return the same evening. “A change would have meant losing a full day just in travel,” he remarked.

The proposed timetable change faced significant backlash on social media, with many users criticizing the decision and questioning its justification. Some comments even connected the proposal to Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on November 24.

An official statement released on that date indicated that the Chief Minister requested adjustments to ensure trains from Sairang could arrive in Guwahati by around 4:30 am for better passenger convenience, a request that the Railway Minister had initially agreed to. However, this plan has now been abandoned.
