Missile Test Supervised by Kim Jong-un

Seoul: North Korea has successfully conducted a test of two newly enhanced air defense missiles to evaluate their combat readiness, as reported by state media on Sunday. The test was overseen by leader Kim Jong-un, who was present during the missile launch.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the Missile Administration executed the test on Saturday, targeting two different objectives with the new air defense systems.

Kim was accompanied by various party and military officials, including Air Force Commander Marshal Kim Kwang-hyok, during the missile launch.

This test coincided with the ongoing large-scale military exercises, Ulchi Freedom Shield, being conducted by South Korea and the United States since August 18, which are set to last for 11 days.

The KCNA highlighted that the test showcased the missiles' "superior combat capability" in responding swiftly to aerial threats, such as attack drones and cruise missiles, emphasizing that their operational modes utilize "unique and special" technology.

The report stated, "The firing particularly proved that the technological features of two types of projectiles are very suitable for destroying various aerial targets."

Additionally, Kim outlined a significant task for the nation's defense science sector to undertake before an important party meeting, although details were not disclosed, as reported by a news agency.

In response to the Seoul-Washington military drills, North Korea has issued a series of criticisms. Recently, Kim condemned the exercises as a demonstration of their intent to "ignite a war," while his sister, Kim Yo-jong, remarked that South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is unqualified to "change the course of history."

The missile test occurred on the same day that Lee met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo, prior to his upcoming summit with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday.

North Korea frequently denounces these military drills as a "war rehearsal," while the allied nations characterize them as "defensive in nature."
