The police in Noorpur district have ramped up their efforts to combat illegal mining, executing significant operations that led to the confiscation of six vehicles, which included JCB machines, tippers, and a tractor.
On the night of January 12, 2026, a team from the Dhagoonpir Police Post, operating under the Damtal Police Station, conducted patrols at Majra Chakki Khad and disrupted ongoing mining activities. During this operation, authorities seized one JCB and one tipper. A case has been filed at the Damtal Police Station under Sections 303(2), 3(5) of BNS, and Section 21(1) of the Mines and Minerals Act. The individuals involved have been identified as Suresh Kumar, son of Nand Lal from village Phulra Kuliya, District Pathankot, and Sukhdev, son of Prakash Chand from Ward No. 5, Mohatli, Tehsil Indora, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. Legal actions are currently in progress against them.
Additionally, one tractor was also seized and penalized under the Mining Act.
On January 13, 2026, during daytime patrols in the Mand area under the jurisdiction of Indora Police Station, police seized another JCB and two tippers involved in illegal mining activities.
In total, six vehicles have been confiscated and penalized under the Mining Act, with cases submitted to the court for further proceedings.
The Noorpur police have reiterated their commitment to continue the fight against illegal mining in the future to prevent such activities.
