Update on Bhabua Road Railway Station Name Change

New Delhi, August 7 - Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday that the Ministry of Home Affairs has not received any proposal regarding the renaming of Bhabua Road railway station in Bihar to 'Maa Mundeshwari Dham.' This information was provided in response to a written question from BJP MP Shivesh Kumar.

Kumar had inquired whether any proposals had been submitted to rename the Bhabua Road railway station after the renowned and ancient religious site, Maa Mundeshwari Dham. In his response, Minister Vaishnaw stated, 'Currently, there has been no proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking the Rail Ministry's comments or views on changing the name of Bhabua Road railway station.'

He further explained that according to existing guidelines, the Ministry of Home Affairs is the competent authority to approve any changes to the names of railway stations in India. Such approvals are granted based on the recommendations of the respective state government after considering the comments and suggestions from relevant ministries and departments.

Once the approval from the Home Ministry is obtained, the state government issues a gazette notification for the name change of the railway station. Subsequently, the regional railway authority implements the name change.
