Nitish Kumar, who has served as Bihar's Chief Minister for over two decades, announced his intention to contest the Rajya Sabha elections and will file his nomination during the current election cycle. The 75-year-old leader expressed his commitment to supporting the new cabinet and stated on social media that he aims to become a member of the Rajya Sabha this time. In addition to Kumar, other NDA candidates, including Upendra Kushwaha and BJP President Nitin Nabin, have also submitted their nominations for the upper house. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) welcomed Kumar's decision and praised his return to parliamentary democracy. Union Home Minister Amit Shah referred to Kumar's tenure as Chief Minister as a "golden chapter" in the state's history, highlighting his significant contributions to Bihar's progress.

Shah noted that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, Kumar has played a vital role in Bihar's development over the past 11 years, ensuring that all initiatives reach the people of Bihar. Kumar is set to return to Delhi as a Rajya Sabha MP once again. The upcoming biennial Rajya Sabha elections, which will fill 37 seats across ten states, are scheduled for March 16, with vote counting taking place at 5 PM on the same day.
