Nitish Kumar's Uncontested Victory

Patna: On Tuesday, Nitish Kumar was re-elected unopposed as the National President of the Janata Dal (United) after the deadline for nomination withdrawals passed without any challengers.

This marks his fourth consecutive term in this role.

Previously, on March 19, JD(U) Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha, along with ten senior party members, submitted Kumar's nomination papers at the party's office in New Delhi.

The final date for nominations was March 22, and with no other candidates stepping forward, the planned voting on March 27 was canceled.

The JD(U) was established in 2003, with George Fernandes as its inaugural National President.

He was later succeeded by Sharad Yadav, who held the position multiple times until internal conflicts prompted a leadership change.

Kumar first took on the role of National President in 2016 after Yadav's departure.

He was re-elected in 2019 but resigned in 2020, appointing RCP Singh as his successor.

In 2021, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, took over the presidency.

However, as the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach, Kumar reassumed the party's leadership on December 29, 2023.

With his recent unopposed election, he is expected to lead JD(U) until at least 2029.

Political analysts suggest that while Kumar officially took over the presidency years after the party's founding, he has been a pivotal figure in its decision-making since the beginning.

His ongoing leadership is viewed as a strategy to ensure organizational stability and strengthen control during a critical political period.

Notably, Kumar's son, Nishant Kumar, has recently joined the party and is anticipated to take on a significant role within the organization.

Additionally, Nitish Kumar was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha.
