Nitish Kumar's Nomination for Rajya Sabha

Today, Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar and president of the Janata Dal (United), submitted his nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. He arrived at the Bihar Assembly alongside BJP National President Nitin Nabin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to file his nomination. Kumar has held the position of Chief Minister in Bihar a record ten times since 2005. He expressed his commitment to fully support and guide the new Chief Minister and government of the state.

In a post on the social media platform 'X', Kumar expressed gratitude to the people of Bihar, stating, 'For over two decades, you have continuously placed your trust and support in me. It is with that trust that we have served Bihar with complete dedication. Thanks to your faith, Bihar is now recognized for its development and respect.' He mentioned that since the beginning of his parliamentary career, he has aspired to be a member of both houses of the state legislature and both houses of Parliament. He added, 'In line with this aspiration, I am striving to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in the upcoming elections.'

Kumar assured the public that he intends to maintain his relationship with them and is committed to working together for the development of Bihar. Following the resounding victory of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the assembly elections last November, there is speculation that a leader from the BJP may take over as Chief Minister if Kumar steps down. If this occurs, Bihar would have its first Chief Minister from the BJP, as it is the only state in the Hindi heartland that has yet to have a BJP Chief Minister. Voting for the five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar is scheduled for March 16, with the deadline for filing nominations set for Thursday.
