NITI Aayog Partners with UNICEF India to Enhance Healthcare in Aspirational Districts
Collaboration for Health and Nutrition Improvement
New Delhi, March 6: On Thursday, NITI Aayog announced the signing of a statement of intent (SOI) with UNICEF India aimed at bolstering strategic healthcare initiatives in Aspirational Districts and Blocks.
This collaboration seeks to harness the strengths of both organizations to enhance maternal and child nutrition in areas that are often overlooked.
NITI Aayog stated, “This partnership will foster multi-stakeholder engagement and fortify the implementation of nutrition and health programs at the block level.”
The agreement was formalized by Rohit Kumar, Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme at NITI Aayog, alongside Arjan de Wagt, Deputy Representative at UNICEF India.
Kumar emphasized that collaborations with entities like UNICEF India would significantly bolster efforts to tackle pressing health and nutrition issues, thereby improving service delivery in critical regions.
“The Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme has highlighted the necessity of convergence, collaboration, and data-driven governance to accelerate developmental progress,” he remarked.
Through its initiative ‘IMPAct4Nutrition’ (I4N), UNICEF India will offer technical support and facilitate partnerships with businesses, public sector entities, and industry groups to direct corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds towards nutrition-centric projects.
This agreement will prioritize enhancing Anganwadi facilities, boosting nutrition awareness, increasing participation in Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and empowering frontline workers, as noted by the public policy body.
NITI Aayog also mentioned that the partnership will engage CSR partners to back health and nutrition initiatives, encourage community involvement, and create platforms for knowledge sharing to identify and spread effective practices across Aspirational Districts and Blocks.
Earlier this week, NITI Aayog entered into another agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to promote sustainable development in Aspirational Districts and Blocks.
The two organizations signed a Record of Discussions for the second phase of the Project for Promotion of the Programme for Japan–India Cooperative Actions Towards Sustainable Development Goals.
