Nishant Kumar's Political Debut

Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, officially entered the political arena by joining the Janata Dal (United) at the party's headquarters in Patna on Sunday.

The event saw the presence of prominent party figures, including working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary. Notably, Nitish Kumar, who leads the party, was absent from the ceremony.

During his address to party members, Nishant expressed his commitment to advancing the developmental initiatives initiated by his father for the people of Bihar, emphasizing his intention to work under his father's mentorship.

He acknowledged and respected his father's choice to transition to the Rajya Sabha, stating his desire to continue operating under his guidance.

On Thursday, Nitish Kumar announced his candidacy for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, indicating that he might resign as chief minister if he secures victory in the polls scheduled for March 16.

“I am grateful to everyone,” Nishant Kumar remarked on Sunday. “I will strive to meet the expectations you have placed in me. My father’s contributions over the past two decades make me, Bihar, and the entire nation proud.”

A significant crowd of party supporters welcomed Nishant Kumar with chants like “Nishant hain to nischint hain (when Nishant Kumar is around, we’re all assured), Jai Nitish, Jai Nishant (hail Nitish Kumar, hail Nishant Kumar),” as reported by a news outlet.

At 50 years old, Nishant, an engineer educated at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra in Ranchi, had largely remained out of the public eye until his recent induction into the party.
