Jorhat, April 21: Assam has made a significant mark in the realm of water sports as Nishamoni Bora secured a silver medal at the SAIL Goa 2026 – All India National Sailing Championship.

Originating from Nagajari Dochuk village in Sarupathar, located in Assam’s Golaghat district, Nishamoni excelled in the IQ Foil Windsurfing Women’s category during the event held in Goa from April 13 to 17.

Facing off against seasoned competitors from all over the nation, she demonstrated remarkable skill and tenacity, ultimately earning her place on the podium.

Nishamoni has already established herself as a pioneering figure in Indian sailing, being the first female sailor from Assam and the Northeast. This latest accomplishment reinforces her status as a leader in a sport that is still developing in the region.

The discipline of windsurfing, especially in the IQ Foil category, is known for its rigorous demands, requiring athletes to master challenging sea conditions with skill, balance, and bravery.
