New Members Sworn in at Rajya Sabha Ceremony
Nineteen newly elected members, including NCP-SCP leader Sharad Pawar and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, took their oaths on Monday. The ceremony was conducted in the presence of Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan. Also present were Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, along with leaders from the respective parties.
The newly elected members included five from Maharashtra, six from Tamil Nadu, five from West Bengal, and three from Odisha.
Maya Chintaman Iwante from the Maharashtra BJP was the first to take her oath, followed by Sharad Pawar, who arrived in a wheelchair. Other members from Maharashtra who took their oaths included Ramrao Sakharam Wadkute (BJP), Jyoti Nagnath Waghmare (SS), and Athawale (RPI-A). From Odisha, Manmohan Samal (BJP), Sarapt Mishra (BJD), and Dilip Kumar Rai (Independent) were sworn in, while Tamil Nadu's representatives included Constantine Ravindran (DMK), Christopher Manikam (Congress), L.K. Sudhish (DMDK), M. Thambidurai (AIADMK), Tiruchi Shiva (DMK), and Ambumani Ramadas (PMK).
From West Bengal, the members who took their oaths were Babul Supriyo Baral (AITC), Biswajit Sinha (BJP), Menaka Guruswamy (AITC), Rajiv Kumar (AITC), and Rukmini Mallik (AITC). Most members opted to take their oaths in their regional languages. Chairman Radhakrishnan congratulated all the newly elected members.
