Delay in Execution of Indian Nurse in Yemen


New Delhi: Yemeni officials have announced a postponement of the execution of Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse sentenced to death, as reported on Tuesday.


Originally set for execution on Wednesday, the date has now been delayed.


Nimisha, who is from Kollengode in the Palakkad district of Kerala, was convicted of murdering a Yemeni national in July 2017.


Sources indicate that the local Yemeni authorities have decided to delay the execution that was planned for July 16.


In 2020, a Yemeni court sentenced her to death, and her appeal was rejected by the Supreme Judicial Council in November 2023.


Currently, the 38-year-old nurse is incarcerated in a prison located in Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, which is under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi movement.
