NIA Arrests Four More Suspects Linked to Radical Islamic Activities in Tamil Nadu
NIA's Ongoing Investigation into Radicalization
On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended four additional suspects in Tamil Nadu as part of its investigation into individuals promoting armed conflict for the establishment of an Islamic state. Officials confirmed the arrests.
The suspects have been identified as Ahmed Ali, Jawahar Satik, Raja Abdullah, also known as MAC Raja, and Sheikh Dawood. They were reportedly radicalized by Jameel Basha, the founder of the Madras Arabic College.
Basha and his associates were allegedly recruiting impressionable youth under the guise of Arabic classes, instilling them with Salafi-jihadist ideologies. Previously, the NIA had arrested Jameel Basha along with his accomplices Irshath, Syed Abdur Rahman, and Mohammad Hussain, filing charges against them.
The suspects are accused of utilizing classes and social media platforms to disseminate anti-national radicalization and recruit young individuals. According to a statement from the investigative agency, the inquiry revealed that the suspects advocated for violence and armed struggle to establish an Islamic state by promoting the ideology of Khilafat and martyrdom, aiming to overthrow democratically elected governments.
