New Zealand's Rise in ICC Women's Rankings

New Delhi, March 17: Following impressive performances in their recent home series against South Africa and Zimbabwe, New Zealand's leading white-ball players have made significant strides in the latest ICC Women’s Player Rankings.

The White Ferns are currently engaged in a five-match T20I series against South Africa, having kicked off with a commanding 80-run victory at Mount Maunganui on Sunday. Captain Melie Kerr was instrumental in this win, scoring a remarkable 78 runs and earning the Player of the Match title, while several of her teammates also saw improvements in their rankings.

Opener Georgia Plimmer made a notable leap, moving up nine positions to 41st in the T20I batters’ rankings after her impactful 63-run innings. Additionally, Jess Kerr climbed 11 spots to reach 23rd place, marking a significant achievement in her career. Former captain Sophie Devine also made headlines, rising six places to 11th in the T20I all-rounders’ category after taking four wickets against the Proteas, showcasing her enduring talent.

The updated rankings reflect New Zealand's dominance in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, which they won 3-0. Maddy Green advanced five spots to 17th, while Melie Kerr moved up two places to tie for 19th. Isabella Gaze also improved her standing, climbing three positions to 61st among ODI batters.

In terms of bowling, Rosemary Mair and Bree Illing made significant gains, moving up seven and five spots to 58th and 79th, respectively, in the ODI bowlers’ rankings. Zimbabwe’s Nomvelo Sibanda also achieved a career-high, rising eight places to tie for 49th, thanks to her strong performances during the series.

In the second T20I of the five-match series, South Africa managed to secure an 18-run victory, leveling the series at 1-1.
