New Voter Registration Rules Introduced in Delhi

The Election Commission of New Delhi has implemented new rules for voter registration, mandating that new applicants provide their parents' Special Intensive Review (SIR) details. This requirement also extends to current voters who did not submit their information during the last SIR process. The changes aim to simplify the verification process and reduce the documentation needed for new applicants. These updates follow the SIR initiative launched in Bihar last year, which required similar submissions. Stay informed about how these changes may affect your voter registration status.

Changes to Voter Registration Process

Officials from the Election Commission have announced that individuals wishing to register as voters in New Delhi must now provide specific information related to their parents' Special Intensive Review (SIR). This requirement will also apply to existing voters who missed submitting their details during the previous SIR process but wish to remain on the voter list.

According to the new guidelines issued by the Election Commission (EC), applicants filling out the new Form-6 for inclusion in the voter list are now required to share their parents' SIR details. This announcement is an extension of the SIR initiative that began in Bihar last June, where new voters were also required to submit a self-declaration form along with Form-6.

An official from the commission clarified that this new requirement regarding parents' SIR details has been added through administrative directives, and there have been no changes made to the original Form-6. The official further noted that this new system will streamline the verification process for voters and reduce the number of necessary documents that new applicants need to attach to their application forms.
