New Support Centre for Indian Women Launched in Toronto
Introduction to the One Stop Centre for Women
Toronto, January 7: The newly inaugurated 'One Stop Centre for Women' (OSCW) at the Indian Consulate in Toronto, Canada, is now fully operational, providing crucial support to Indian women in distress.
Purpose and Services Offered
The Indian Consulate General has stated that this centre aims to offer accessible support to women residing in Canada, ensuring a safe and inclusive atmosphere.
In an interview with a Canadian media outlet, Kapidhwaja Pratap Singh, the Acting Consul General, emphasized that the centre serves as a vital link between Canadian and Indian authorities, facilitating access to legal, financial, and emotional support for Indian women.
Addressing Women's Needs
Singh noted, "Women in Canada often require legal, financial, and various other forms of assistance, particularly in cases of domestic violence, dowry issues, and exploitation. This centre is designed to provide those necessary services."
When asked about the centre's methodology, Singh acknowledged that while numerous organizations in Canada offer help, cultural and social barriers frequently hinder women from seeking assistance, leaving them isolated.
He added that the centre is accessible not only to permanent residents of Indian origin but also to visitors, workers, and students.
Positive Response and Future Plans
Singh reported a strong initial response, revealing that within days of its opening, over a dozen women had already sought help for various issues.
He also highlighted that the centre will provide financial aid to women in need.
Established on December 26, 2025, the OSCW aims to assist Indian women facing challenges such as domestic violence, abuse, family disputes, abandonment, exploitation, and legal issues.
Comprehensive Support Framework
The OSCW is committed to delivering coordinated, beneficiary-focused assistance by connecting affected women with timely support pathways, including immediate counseling, psycho-social support, and legal advice, while also helping them access relevant community and social services in Canada. All interventions will comply with local laws in Canada, as stated by the Indian Consulate General in Toronto.
