New Solid Waste Management Initiative Launched in Gohpur

A new Solid Waste Management Project has been launched in Gohpur, aiming to enhance local waste management efforts. Funded by the Swachhata Bharat Mission and the 15th Finance Commission, the initiative includes a budget of over Rs 1 crore. MLA Utpal Bora announced plans for further infrastructure improvements, including a two-lane road under the Asom Mala Scheme and the upcoming Gohpur-Numaligarh link tunnel. The project launch was attended by local officials and community members, highlighting the commitment to improving municipal services.
 

Launch of Solid Waste Management Project


Biswanath Chariali, Jan 1: A significant initiative aimed at enhancing the Solid Waste Management Project (Material Recovery Facility) was inaugurated in Ward No 1 of Dhenudhara, Gohpur Municipality. This project is funded through the Swachhata Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 and the Tied Funds from the 15th Finance Commission, with Gohpur MLA Utpal Bora officiating the launch on Tuesday.


For the non-technical aspects of the scheme, a budget of Rs 1,09,10,000 has been allocated for the development of the MRF project. During the launch, MLA Bora mentioned that additional funds would be secured through a tender process for the technical components in the next phase.


MLA Bora also shared details about the Asom Mala Scheme, which plans to upgrade a 30-km section from National Highway 15 in Gohpur town to Howajan via Dhenudhara into a two-lane road, with an investment of Rs 80 crore.


Moreover, he noted that preparations for the Gohpur-Numaligarh link tunnel are progressing rapidly, with the Prime Minister of India expected to visit Gohpur in February to lay the foundation stone for this tunnel.


The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including Atul Bora, chairman of Gohpur Municipality; Nomal Baruah, chairman of the Gohpur OBC Development Board; Pooja Kumari, executive officer of Gohpur Municipality; ward commissioners, and local residents.
