The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has announced new regulations for pilgrims, requiring an RFID travel card and setting time limits for travel. These measures aim to enhance safety and manage the expected surge in visitors during the New Year. With increased monitoring and a multi-layered security approach, the shrine board is focused on ensuring a smooth pilgrimage experience. A recent high-level meeting reviewed these arrangements, emphasizing the importance of travel management and security at the site. Read on to learn more about these significant changes.

Updated Guidelines for Pilgrims

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has introduced new regulations for pilgrims visiting the sacred site, effective immediately. Under these updated rules, every pilgrim must obtain an RFID travel card along with their registration before commencing their journey. According to the shrine board, pilgrims are required to start their journey within 12 hours of receiving the RFID card and must return to the base camp in Katra within 24 hours. Previously, the card was valid for 12 hours for starting the journey, but there was no deadline for completing the pilgrimage. This marks the first time a time limit has been established for completing the pilgrimage.

Safety Measures and Increased Monitoring

As the New Year approaches, the administration has noted a significant increase in the number of pilgrims. Traditionally, heavy crowds are expected three to four days before the New Year. The purpose of these new regulations is to ensure safety, prevent overcrowding in and around the temple, and avoid stampede-like situations. The shrine board has instructed officials at registration centers to keep pilgrims informed about the new rules. These regulations apply to all modes of travel, including traditional trekking, helicopter rides, and battery-operated vehicles.

Enhanced Security for the New Year

In addition, to manage the anticipated influx of pilgrims during the New Year, security measures have been intensified along the route to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple, located in the Trikuta hills of Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have reported that special attention is being given to crowded and narrow pathways. A multi-layered security framework has been established within and around the temple complex, involving police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and security personnel from the temple board, supported by Quick Response Teams (QRT).
