Agartala, April 28: A notable political event unfolded in Tripura as 24 newly elected Members of the District Council (MDCs) from the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) took their oaths at Khumulwng. This ceremony was marked by the absence of four elected representatives from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who chose to boycott the event.

Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the founder of TMP, attended the swearing-in and seized the moment to advocate for essential reforms and a renewed commitment to inclusive development.

He highlighted the necessity for a progressive outlook, asserting that the future of Tripura hinges on prioritizing youth, healthcare, education, and job opportunities.

“We are in the process of building a new Tripura and a new India. Neglecting the youth, health, education, and opportunities will lead to societal decline, affecting the state and the nation,” Debbarma stated.

Debbarma also called for a transformation in administrative mindsets, urging for governance that is responsive rather than arbitrary.

He emphasized the need for wider involvement in policy formulation, suggesting that professionals from various sectors, including former civil servants, judiciary members, academics, and cultural figures, should contribute to innovative solutions in vital areas such as drinking water, healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship.

Additionally, he urged the central government to acknowledge the significance of the TTAADC in Tripura's overall progress, asserting that substantial advancements cannot occur without empowering the autonomous council.

The oath was administered by Law Secretary Shankari Das during a formal ceremony held on Monday.

In response to the boycott, the BJP defended its stance. Former MP Rebati Tripura raised concerns about alleged irregularities in recent TTAADC recruitments, claiming that approximately 120 appointments were made without following proper procedures during the election period.

“No advertisements were published, and the necessary protocols were ignored. While we advocate for youth employment, adherence to rules is crucial,” he remarked, indicating that the party would later decide when its elected MDCs would take their oaths.

This development follows the recent elections for the 28-member Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), where the TMP achieved a significant victory by securing 24 seats, while the BJP won four.
