New Leadership Appointments at the National Commission for Minorities

The central government has appointed Harjeet Singh Grewal as the chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities for a three-year term. This move aims to strengthen the commission's role in protecting the rights of minority communities. Alongside Grewal, S. Munawwari Begum has been appointed as vice-chairperson, and Glen E. Souza Ticklo joins as a member. These changes are expected to enhance the commission's effectiveness in overseeing the implementation of legal protections and advising the government on minority welfare issues.
 

Government Appoints New Chairperson and Members

The central government has appointed Harjeet Singh Grewal as the chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) for a term of three years. This appointment has been confirmed through an official letter issued by the government. Grewal succeeds Iqbal Singh Lalpura, who previously held the position.


In addition to Grewal's appointment, S. Munawwari Begum has been designated as the vice-chairperson of the NCM, while Glen E. Souza Ticklo has been named as a member of the commission.


Strengthening the Commission's Role

These appointments are part of the government's efforts to enhance the functioning of this statutory body, which is tasked with safeguarding the rights and interests of minority communities in the country. The National Commission for Minorities oversees the implementation of constitutional and legal protections for notified minority communities and advises the government on issues related to their welfare and development.
