Guwahati, July 12: A significant gathering of leading oncologists, scientists, and researchers from the Northeast has resulted in the creation of a unified platform aimed at enhancing collaborative cancer research and patient care in the region.
This initiative has led to the establishment of the Cancer Research and Innovation Foundation of North East India (CRIF-NEI), which seeks to foster partnerships among healthcare professionals, researchers, and academic institutions, facilitating multicentric cancer research throughout the Northeast.
The foundation was officially launched during a recent assembly in Guwahati, which saw participation from healthcare specialists, universities, and research organizations from Assam and neighboring states.
As per the founding members, CRIF-NEI aims to meet the increasing demand for coordinated cancer research by providing a structured platform for collaboration in vital areas such as cancer prevention, early detection, molecular diagnostics, translational medicine, and precision oncology.
This initiative unites experts from prominent institutions, including IIT Guwahati, AIIMS Guwahati, Gauhati University, Assam down town University, Martin Luther Christian University, Nuclear Medicine Diagnostic and Imaging Centre, ARHI, GNRC, Health City Hospital, and various other medical and academic organizations in the region.
During the meeting, participants committed to advancing multicentric cancer research projects, organizing scientific conferences, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, cancer screening initiatives, capacity-building activities, and public awareness campaigns to enhance cancer care in the Northeast.
Dr. MN Baruah, a distinguished oncologist and Managing Director of the North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, has agreed to oversee the foundation's scientific endeavors and future research initiatives.
Dr. Baruah stated, "This platform will bolster scientific collaboration and expedite research efforts that can significantly benefit cancer patients in the Northeast."
Participants emphasized the necessity for closer cooperation among clinicians, scientists, engineers, and researchers to translate scientific advancements into practical healthcare solutions, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
Members also articulated a long-term vision to establish the Northeast as a recognized center for collaborative cancer research, innovation, and precision oncology, while promoting high-quality scientific research to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and overall patient care in the region.
