Introduction of the New Employment Bill
The Union Minister for Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has introduced the 'Developed India - Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Bill, 2025' in the Lok Sabha. This new legislation is set to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) of 2005. Chouhan highlighted that the new law guarantees 125 days of wage employment, an increase from the previous 100 days.
Details of the Bill
Chouhan stated, 'I want to inform you about Bill number 3, which was implemented in India in 2005. Now, we are discussing the guarantee mission grant for the Developed India Employment Agency (MAG) in 2025.'
He emphasized that the house is a sacred temple of democracy and urged opposition members to listen carefully, assuring them that he would address all their questions. The minister described the 'Developed India - G Ram G Bill' as a legislation aimed at creating self-reliant, self-sufficient, poverty-free, and employment-rich villages, increasing the employment guarantee from 100 to 125 days.
Political Context and Support
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the 'Developed India - G Ram G Bill, 2025' aims to establish Ram Rajya in the country and fulfill the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi. During the discussion on the bill, BJP MP Brijmohan Agrawal remarked that if Lord Ram desired a temple, it was built, and now he wishes for developed villages.
Vision for Rural Development
Agrawal asserted, 'This bill is introduced to bring about Ram Rajya and to realize Gandhi Ji's dreams.' He criticized the main opposition party, stating that while Congress had used Gandhi Ji as a brand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is actualizing his visions. He accused Congress of turning MGNREGA into a mere tool for filling pockets, while asserting that the 'G Ram G' initiative would strengthen the rural economy, promote comprehensive village development, and curb corruption. He concluded by stating that this bill embodies the spirit of Hindutva and Sanatan.
