Doomdooma, May 30: The inquiry into the terror funding case in Tinsukia district has taken a significant turn, with the police apprehending three additional individuals, including a journalist, as they investigate potential connections to militant networks both within the Northeast and beyond.

According to Mrinmoy Das, the additional superintendent of police in Tinsukia, the local police have continued their probe into allegations of militant financing and support activities, resulting in the arrest of journalist Hironmoy Moran, along with two other suspects from Uttar Pradesh.

Moran, who serves as a correspondent for Doordarshan and is affiliated with a local news portal, was detained following extensive questioning.

Another individual associated with the same news portal, identified as its owner Rantu Dangoria, was interrogated but subsequently released. Moran was presented in court on Thursday and placed in police custody. Sources indicate that he is accused of collaborating with militant organizations and aiding financial support networks.

Additionally, four individuals previously arrested in this case—Samar Gohain, Dipu Chetia Patra, Debashis Gogoi, and Mrityunjoy Konwar—were brought before the court after their remand period ended.

Samar Gohain and Dipu Chetia Patra were ordered into judicial custody, while Debashis Gogoi and Mrityunjoy Konwar were remanded to police custody for an additional five days for further questioning.

Authorities are also intensively interrogating Sheikh Basir, who was detained in Maharashtra’s Palghar district for allegedly facilitating the transfer of funds for militant operations.

In a related development, Tinsukia police, with support from Uttar Pradesh Police, transported Noor Mohammad from Saharanpur and Mohammad Shubham from Kanpur to Tinsukia from Unnao district as part of the ongoing investigation.

While specific details of the interrogation have not been publicly disclosed, police sources suggest that significant leads have emerged. Investigators suspect that the funding network may have connections extending beyond the Northeast, prompting an examination of potential interstate and international ties.

Authorities are also exploring whether the suspects have affiliations not only with insurgent groups in the Northeast but also with other extremist organizations. However, senior police officials have stated that definitive conclusions will only be reached after a thorough investigation is completed.
