Tensions Rise in Meerut Over Dalit Student's Murder

A significant turn of events has emerged in the murder case of a Dalit student in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. On Friday, police prevented Chandrashekhar Azad, the leader of the Azad Samaj Party and MP from the Nagina constituency, from visiting the victim's village at the Siwaya toll plaza. This led to a prolonged period of tension and commotion at the site.

After several hours of this unfolding situation, local authorities summoned the victim's family to a control room at the Siwaya toll plaza. It was here that MP Chandrashekhar Azad met with the mother and sister of the deceased. During this meeting, which took place in the presence of senior police and administrative officials, Azad offered his condolences and assured the family of his full support in seeking justice.

Following the meeting, Azad spoke to reporters, emphasizing the need for an impartial investigation into the case and the necessity of strict legal action against those responsible. He strongly condemned the police's actions against Dalit protesters in recent days, asserting that using force against the public is entirely unacceptable. He accused authorities of attempting to silence the voices of dissent.

Azad also announced his intention to raise this issue in Parliament when the session resumes. He mentioned plans to organize protests demanding justice for the victim's family and the release of individuals arrested by the police in connection with the case.

In his remarks to the media, Azad indirectly criticized Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, stating that mere statements are insufficient; it is crucial to stand with the victim's family on the ground. Notably, Mayawati had previously claimed that certain political parties and organizations were exploiting the sentiments of the Dalit community for their political gain without naming anyone.

In anticipation of Azad's arrival, extensive security measures were implemented at the Siwaya toll plaza. Police set up barricades to control traffic on several routes and deployed a large number of officers. The presence of a significant crowd of supporters from the Azad Samaj Party contributed to the ongoing tension in the area.
