New Developments in Mumbai Family's Mysterious Deaths: Food Cleared, Poison Investigation Continues
New Insights into the Mysterious Deaths in Mumbai
A significant update has emerged in the case of the suspicious deaths of four family members in the Paydhuni area of Mumbai. Initial investigations had pointed to food items, specifically biryani and watermelon, as potential causes of death, but the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared these items. According to their report, no harmful substances or adulterants were found in the food samples collected from the home. Authorities are now shifting their focus to the possibility of poisoning.
The Mumbai police are currently awaiting the toxicology report, which is expected to clarify whether the deaths were caused by an overdose of painkillers or any toxic substances. This tragic incident occurred on April 26.
No Harmful Substances Found, Poisoning Suspected
The FDA's preliminary investigation revealed no harmful substances in the food consumed by the family. However, the autopsy report indicated the presence of morphine, a pain-relieving drug, and an unusual green discoloration in some body tissues, which may suggest exposure to a toxic substance.
Food Samples Analyzed with No Evidence of Adulteration
The Maharashtra FDA collected 11 food samples from the family's residence in Paydhuni for analysis. The tests showed no evidence of adulteration. The samples included biryani, watermelon, clay pot water, raw and cooked rice, raw and cooked chicken, dates, and spices.
Investigation Continues to Uncover Poison Source
The case came to light when 40-year-old Abdullah Dokadia was hospitalized after reporting that he and his family members—his wife Nasreen (35) and daughters Aisha (16) and Zainab (13)—fell ill after consuming watermelon. Tragically, all four passed away during treatment. The police have filed an 'Accidental Death Report' (ADR) and initiated an investigation.
An officer involved in the investigation stated that all possible angles are being explored, but no conclusive results have been reached yet. They are awaiting detailed reports from the Kalina forensic lab, FDA, and JJ Hospital.
Potential Links to Fraud Case Under Investigation
During the investigation, police discovered that Abdullah might have been a witness in a fraud case involving a builder. While this information is being verified, authorities caution against hastily linking it to the deaths. So far, no suspicious financial transactions have been identified. Relatives have described the family as stable and happy, with no known disputes or concerns. Investigators are also examining call detail records, digital communications, and other electronic data, but no solid leads have emerged.
Meanwhile, a forensic officer from the Kalina lab confirmed that preliminary tests on viscera samples detected the presence of some unidentified foreign particles. Although initial results suggest the presence of an external substance, it remains unclear whether these substances are toxic, medicinal, or of another nature. Further analysis is ongoing.
