Guwahati, April 14: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has inaugurated a new cultural space known as Bihutoli in Maligaon, specifically designed for the celebration of Bihu and other significant events.
This venue has been named the “Zubeen Garg Railway Bihutoli” in honor of the renowned cultural figure, symbolizing his lasting impact on the region's heritage.
As stated by NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Bihutoli is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a permanent stage, dining area, restroom complex, community gathering space, boundary wall, and an all-weather ground.
The venue is set to host the annual Rongali Bihu festivities organized by the Pandu Bihu Sanmilani, Maligaon, from April 14 to 17. A pre-Bihu inauguration ceremony took place at the site prior to the celebrations.
NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava was present at the event, which featured traditional Bihu performances and attracted railway officials, local community members, and cultural enthusiasts.
Palmee Borthakur, Zubeen Garg's sister, attended the event and expressed her family's appreciation for the tribute paid to the celebrated artist.
Officials noted that naming the Bihutoli after Garg highlights his significant contribution to Assam's cultural scene, especially during Rongali Bihu, one of the state's most important festivals.
