Silchar, Oct 16: Over the last three days, twelve Naachghars and four Durga Puja mandaps have been officially opened in the tea garden regions of Lakhipur constituency, providing essential venues for cultural and religious festivities.

During the inauguration, Cabinet Minister and Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai expressed his satisfaction, stating that these projects were completed in time for the Durga Puja celebrations, fulfilling his earlier promise. The groundwork for these facilities was laid earlier this year in February and March.

“I assured the community that these Naachghars and Durga mandaps would be ready for Durga Puja and other communal events. I am pleased to see this promise realized,” Rai remarked.

The construction of these projects was undertaken by the Barak Valley Development Department, with an investment of Rs 4.5 crore, as noted by the minister.

On Friday, Rai inaugurated a newly built Durga Puja mandap at Kalabil Bagan in Labak Gaon Panchayat, along with three Naachghars located in Jirighat, Lakhipur, and Nandan Kanan tea gardens.

The Naachghars are intended to host cultural performances, social events, and traditional activities, especially within tea garden communities, where such venues are vital for maintaining cultural practices.

These facilities are also expected to enhance the appreciation of folk art and Jhumur dance, offering local artists a platform to display their talents and aiding in the preservation of the unique cultural heritage of tea garden inhabitants.

Rai emphasized that the Durga Puja mandaps would serve as dedicated areas for religious activities and community gatherings, while the Naachghars would enrich the social and cultural fabric of the tea garden regions.

He reiterated his dedication to fostering community development and safeguarding the cultural legacy of tea garden residents.
