New Legal Action Against Arjun Ayanki

A fresh case has been registered against notorious criminal Arjun Ayanki for allegedly posting defamatory content about Kerala's Chief Minister, V. D. Satheesan, on social media. Authorities confirmed this development on Saturday, stating that police are actively searching for Ayanki across the state. The Ernakulam rural cyber police initiated the case late Friday night based on a Facebook post made by Ayanki on August 5.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Ayanki's post was allegedly part of a calculated scheme aimed at publicly discrediting the Chief Minister, inciting animosity among the public, and provoking riots. The post, uploaded from a Facebook account under the name 'Arjun Ayanki', claimed that former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was superior to the current one. The FIR also noted that Ayanki referred to the Chief Minister as a 'joker and a liar' in his post, which was intended to sway public opinion and create unrest.

The police have filed charges under Section 296(B) of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to the use of obscene words in public places, and Section 192, which addresses incitement to riot. Additionally, charges have been brought under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, which deals with the publication or transmission of obscene material through electronic means. Furthermore, the Kannur cyber police have also filed a case against Ayanki for allegedly threatening the state's Home Minister, Ramesh Chennithala.

This new case comes at a time when police are intensifying their search for Ayanki in connection with threats made to police officers in the Kothamangalam area. In their efforts to apprehend him, authorities detained his brother Akhil and two other associates on Friday. Ayanki first gained notoriety in 2021 when he was linked to a gold smuggling network operating through Karipur Airport. The latest case against him is related to a police raid at a resort in Kothamangalam, where he and a friend were suspected of gathering for criminal activities.

After being released on bail, Ayanki reportedly made threatening posts on social media targeting the officer in charge of the Kothamangalam police station who led the raid. Following a complaint from the officer, police registered a new case against him. Recently, the Kerala High Court denied Ayanki's anticipatory bail plea, and police allege that he continued to threaten officers via voice messages on social media even after the rejection of his bail application.
