New Cancer Care Centre to Open in Haflong by February
Haflong to Welcome Cancer Care Facility
Haflong, the picturesque hill station and administrative center of Dima Hasao in Assam, is on track to establish a vital cancer care satellite center by February. This announcement was made by Dr. Ravi Kannan, the director of the Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (CCHRC), during his recent visit to the area with his team.
Dr. Kannan, a distinguished surgical oncologist and recipient of the Padma Shri award, evaluated potential locations and collaborated with local health officials during his visit. This initiative is part of CCHRC’s broader strategy to expand satellite clinics in underserved regions like Haflong, aiming to decentralize cancer treatment.
Currently, residents of Dima Hasao face challenges due to the absence of specialized oncology services, often requiring them to travel significant distances to Silchar or Guwahati for treatment.
Since Dr. Kannan took the helm in 2007, the CCHRC has been providing free or subsidized care to thousands of patients each year and has successfully launched similar satellite centers in other locations.
The upcoming facility in Haflong is expected to offer services such as early detection, chemotherapy, palliative care, and follow-up treatments, significantly alleviating the burden on low-income families.
During a media interaction, Dr. Kannan expressed gratitude towards the leaders of the autonomous council, community representatives, and all stakeholders for their support in this commendable initiative. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in this noble cause.
He also reminded everyone to maintain a healthy lifestyle to ensure overall well-being.
