Presidential Appointments Announced

On Monday, President Droupadi Murmu made significant appointments, naming new governors for Haryana and Goa, along with a lieutenant governor for Ladakh.

Kavinder Gupta, who previously served as the deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has been designated as the lieutenant governor of Ladakh, according to the President’s Secretariat.

The President has accepted the resignation of Brigadier BD Mishra, who formerly held this position.

Gupta, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and a long-standing member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has been elected as the mayor of Jammu for three consecutive terms. He briefly served as deputy chief minister in Jammu and Kashmir for a period of 51 days in 2018.

Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, associated with the Telugu Desam Party, will assume the role of governor in Goa.

Raju has experience in both state and national politics, having served as the Union civil aviation minister in Narendra Modi’s initial Cabinet before resigning in 2018 due to concerns regarding special status for Andhra Pradesh.

Ashim Kumar Ghosh has been appointed as the governor of Haryana.

Ghosh led the BJP’s West Bengal unit from 1992 to 2002 and is recognized for enhancing the party's grassroots presence in the region. He has also acted as the BJP’s observer for Tripura.

The President’s Secretariat confirmed that these appointments will take effect once the individuals assume their respective offices.
