Nepal Airlines Apologizes for Misrepresenting Jammu and Kashmir in Flight Map

Nepal Airlines has issued an apology after facing backlash for showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan in a flight network map. The airline described the incident as a result of 'cartographic inaccuracies' and emphasized that the post did not reflect Nepal's official stance. Public figures and social media users have expressed outrage, calling for accountability and highlighting the importance of accurate representations in international relations. The airline has committed to reviewing its materials to prevent future errors. This incident raises significant questions about the political implications of such representations and the relationship between India and Nepal.

Nepal Airlines Issues Apology Over Controversial Map

Kathmandu: On Thursday, April 30, Nepal Airlines expressed regret for depicting Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan in a flight network map. The airline referred to this as "cartographic inaccuracies." This apology came after significant backlash over the misleading map shared on their social media, which was subsequently removed. In their apology, the airline clarified that the post did not represent the official position of either Nepal or Nepal Airlines. "We sincerely apologize for the error in the network map recently shared on our social media channels. The map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding international boundaries that do not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines," the airline stated on X.

Public Reaction to Nepal Airlines:

Bhojpuri film star Khesari Lal Yadav took to X, questioning, "What prompted Nepal Airlines to alter the map of India, particularly regarding Jammu and Kashmir? This seems deliberate and is not a trivial matter; it feels like provocation."

Another user, Divya Tandon, commented, "India has supported Nepal's economy for decades through open borders, job opportunities for millions of Nepalis, trade facilitation via Indian ports, fuel pipelines, power projects, disaster relief, infrastructure, scholarships, and military cooperation. This is how Nepal Airlines responds: by releasing a flight network map that shows Jammu and Kashmir bordering Pakistan. This isn't just a design choice; it's a political statement." Another user called for action from the Indian government, stating, "Today, Nepal Airlines released a map of its flight network that has significantly altered the map of India! Comparing these two maps reveals that Nepal has removed the Kashmir region from India and depicted it as part of China and Pakistan. This is an extremely sensitive incident, and the Government of India should take immediate notice and act swiftly."
