Protests Erupt in Parliament

New Delhi, Aug 11: On Tuesday, members of the ruling NDA staged a demonstration outside the main entrance of Parliament, protesting against what they termed the "brutal" police response to job seekers in Jharkhand. They also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly avoiding a debate regarding student protests occurring nationwide.

The MPs marched from the Parliament Library to the main entrance, known as 'Makar Dwar', chanting slogans such as "Rahul Gandhi Jawab Do" and "Rahul Gandhi Bhago Maa" among others.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey asserted that Gandhi's "mindset" has been revealed to the public, claiming that Devendra Nath Mahto, who is currently on a hunger strike in Jharkhand, was assaulted by police.

Notably, Congress is part of the coalition government in Jharkhand.

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut highlighted the alleged atrocities faced by children in Jharkhand, stating, "They have been brutally beaten, and water cannons and tear gas have been used against them. We must raise our voices about this and demand answers."

Meanwhile, opposition MPs, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, protested within the Parliament complex over claims of misappropriated donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the alleged police brutality against student demonstrators.

They called for accountability from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the police actions during the student protests on July 20, which were sparked by a paper leak issue.

During the protests, both factions came close to confrontation, but security personnel intervened to maintain order.

On Monday, the Centre had scheduled a debate on student protests across the country, led by Home Minister Amit Shah. However, Gandhi remarked that the public is not interested in Shah's views on "general topics" and is more concerned about whether he authorized the use of pellet guns against protesting students.

The unrest among students regarding alleged irregularities in Jharkhand's recruitment exams intensified on Monday, with police employing water cannons and lathi charges to thwart a march towards the assembly, coinciding with the ED's initiation of a money laundering investigation into the discrepancies.

Violence erupted between protesters and police in Ranchi, the state capital, as thousands of job aspirants broke through several barricades while attempting to reach the assembly, where the Monsoon Session was in progress, according to officials.
