NDA Confident of Winning 90 Seats in Assam Assembly Elections, Says Sonowal

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed strong confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure at least 90 seats in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. He attributes this optimism to the significant development achieved under the BJP-led government and the overwhelming support from the public, particularly women. Sonowal also addressed concerns regarding the opposition alliance's impact, asserting that they lack a solid grassroots presence. With strategic candidate placements and a focus on beneficiary schemes, the NDA aims to strengthen its voter base ahead of the elections.

Guwahati, April 4: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure a minimum of 90 seats in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.

In a conversation with a news outlet, Sonowal emphasized that the BJP prioritizes peace and development, highlighting the significant progress the state has made over the past decade, largely attributed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He noted that his extensive campaigning for NDA candidates has garnered substantial public support.

When questioned about the potential impact of the Congress-led opposition alliance on the NDA's electoral prospects, Sonowal remarked that the opposition lacks a solid grassroots presence. He pointed out that discussions surrounding the opposition are primarily confined to social media and mainstream media.

Sonowal further stated that successful electoral campaigns rely on a robust ground-level organization, which he believes the opposition parties currently lack.

He acknowledged that government schemes aimed at beneficiaries have significantly bolstered support for the BJP, particularly among women, who constitute a large portion of attendees at BJP rallies.

According to Sonowal, many families have achieved self-sufficiency through various government initiatives, enabling numerous underprivileged students to continue their education, thereby creating a strong voter base for the NDA.

Addressing concerns about BJP members contesting as rebel candidates in certain constituencies, Sonowal assured that this would not hinder the NDA's prospects, as voters are aware that supporting rebels would lead to wasted votes.

On the NDA's decision to field two candidates against Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi, Sonowal explained that it was a strategic choice made in consultation with the AGP. Initially, the NDA nominated Pradip Hazarika from the AGP for the Sivasagar constituency, later adding Kushal Duori from the BJP.

Sonowal also campaigned in the Jorhat constituency, where Congress State unit president Gaurav Gogoi is a candidate. He asserted that BJP's Hitendra Nath Goswami stands a better chance of winning, citing Goswami's respected status and his incumbency as the sitting MLA, along with the BJP's stronger grassroots presence compared to Congress in that area.
